THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Our Alumni Journey

Forging Futures, Building Legacies

The Alumni Association activities started on 23rd June 2001, a few years after the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede through the coming together of some old students with like minds who deemed it fit to initiate the process to be getting connected and with a view of providing necessary assistance towards the development of the institution. Within the period of its formation, several meetings were held to perfect its establishment and to bring it to limelight.

The Alumni Association’s existence was brought to the Polytechnic Management’s recognition on 16th October 2002 when the first set of National Executive Council (NEC) under the leadership of Mr. Ademola Fabiyi (aka Ebony) was sworn in. This administration kick-started the initial awareness and was able as part of its numerous built standalone eight rooms public toilets for the polytechnic community’s use, and this was handed over to the Management as a way of giving back.

In the process of changing the administration to the next set of National Executive Council, the election for the change of administration was challenged because it was considered as not being properly coordinated and organized, and this paved the way for the formation Alumni Steering Committee under the Chairmanship of Alhaji Oladosu Babson to reconcile all the acrimonies that arose from the aftermath election, and also with objectives of correcting all the constitutional ambiguities. The Steering Committee’s effort brought about the Unified National Executive Council – which has closed the gap of differences between the different factions that ensued in the Alumni Association.

Eventually, Mr. Festus Olaifa emerged as the second National President of the FPE Alumni Association in 2009. A lot of transformation was brought into the administration of the FPE Alumni Association, especially in the area of bringing more committed members to support its development. The FPE Alumni Association got registered with the regulatory authority – Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Abuja with Registration Number CAC/IT/NO/35807 dated 13th November 2009, and this registration confirmed the status of the Association as a full-fledged legal entity.

SHITTU Bashir Olaleye emerged as the 3 rd Alumni National President in 2016 having scaled through the rigorous electioneering processes. The administration focused on all-inclusive participation of members across the globe, this was made possible through awareness creation among members via introduction of multiple branches. Membership of alumni spread across various branches, namely: Lagos & Ogun State Branch, Osun State Branch, Oyo State Branch, FCT-Abuja Branch, Port Harcourt, UK & Ireland Branch, and United States & Canada branch while efforts are ongoing to establish Ondo & Ekiti Branch and Kwara State branches.

Notable achievements were recorded during the 3 rd administration such as establishment of synergy between the existing and old students through introduction of Annual Entreprenuerial Seminar programme for the graduating students; Donation and installation of about 250 ceiling fans into classrooms/lecture rooms for students’ use; Construction of Wall Fence across the Female Hostel Facilities at the South Campus of the Polytechnic among others.

This laudable achievement made during the 3 rd administration earned Shittu, B. Olaleye another re-election as the 4 th Alumni President in 2019. During this period, numerous programs/projects were consolidated thereby given the FPE Alumni Association global outlook and new face-lift. Other organs of Alumni structures were instituted such as Board of Trustees (BoT), Central Executive
Council (CEC) and Branches Executive in addition to the introduction of Core values, Vision, Mission and Slogan for the Alumni; the initial Alumni Constitution was reviewed, presented and ratified by the Congress for immediate use. The new Board of Trustees and Amended Constitution has also been approved by government through its agency – Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) leading to the issuance of new Certificate of Incorporation for the Alumni Association.

The new Amended Polytechnic Act of 2019 now has inclusion of Alumni representative in the composition of membership of Governing Council in the Polytechnics, hence the Alumni President (Shittu, B. Olaleye) served as the first Alumni representative in the Governing Council of Federal Polytechnic, Ede. Also, the first maiden Alumni magazine tagged “The Emeritus” was introduced and launched; Appointment of the External Auditors and Legal Advisers were made during the 4 th Administration of Shittu, B. Olaleye. In the same vein, it is good to note that for the first time of Alumni Association establishment, all the Financial Records and Accounts for the period between 2017 and 2022 of Shittu led administration were audited by the External Auditors.

The 4 th Alumni President (Shittu, B. Olaleye) was successfully handed over to a new regime on April 1, 2023 upon an election that was conducted in 2022 and its result was globally accepted, now produced the first ever female Alumni President in person of Mrs. Adedoyin Adebola Balogun as the 5 th Alumni President currently leading the dynamic and progressive new Executives.
